Hi, My Mother In Law was taken to hospital in pain 18 weeks ago and was told she has a 13 cm tumour on her liver. She had a biopsy which was inconclusive, then a sonogram and then had a PET scan which were both inconclusive. They then decided to operate and remove the tumour, however when they got in there they discovered the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes and did not remove the tumour. This was 14 days ago and we still have not heard anything or had any prognosis. Is this usual or do we need to be knocking on some doors for answers? She is of the generation where she doesn't like to be a nuisance!
Hi Ringo,
I'm very sorry to hear about your MIL. I really think you should chase the NHS on this, there are treatments for inoperable liver cancer she could be on and it is very possible to fall between the cracks of different medical teams. I'd start by contacting her GP if she isn't under the care of a specific hospital department, or the department if she is.
All the best,
Rachel
Thanks for replying. It’s been 18 weeks since diagnosis and she’s still had no treatment or even a definitive prognosis stage or grade. She won’t chase up as she feels there are more than just her waiting and doesn’t want to be a nuisance! She just says they’ll contact her when they’ve got something to tell her but surely 18 weeks is way too long!
