Hi, I was diagnosed with AML November 24 and started treatment Chemo February 25 using Venetoclax and Azacitidine.  Since starting chemo I have developed severe breathlessness and coughing, unable to walk any distance or sleep lying down.  Has anyone else had these symptoms. Thanks

  • Hi  and welcome to this corner of the Community although I am always sorry to see folks joining us. I am Mike and I keep an eye on our various Blood Cancer groups.

I don’t have Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML)  but have been on my journey for coming up to 25 years with 2 rare types of T-Cell Lymphoma's so although my Blood Cancer ‘type’ is different I most definitely appreciate the challenges of this journey rather well.

These treatments can cause various short or long term issues and one is Anaemia, where your Red Blood Cells are reduced and as these Red blood cells carry oxygen around the body. this can result in very low in energy, breathless, dizziness and light-headed-ness……. I had over 800hrs of chemo over a 2 year period and I definitely experienced this.

You should get in contact with your CNS and highlight the problems you are having to them. I often had to did this, I then had a blood tests and more than often had some blood transfusions to give my immune system a helping hand.

This group is the general Leukaemia group but it’s not used a lot but we do have a dedicated…..

……. support group, joining this group will open you up to a wider group of people.
