Blood Cancer Concerns

Feel a bit awkward asking on here as I’ve not been diagnosed with a blood cancer but concerned about certain symptoms and test results as I’ve had Otistste Cancer twice.

Ovef the past 4/5 months I have become increasingly fatigued such that I wake up and struggle to carry out small tasks etc. also have small sweats and under skin chills and constantly itching - My GP sent me for tests and I have a NAFLD ( non -alcoholic fatty liver disease) After repeat tests my Ferritin levels have risen from 455 to 482 so have been referred to liver specialist for scan etc I suppose to check for iron overload etc

I am worried as I see that high ferritin and these other symptoms can be associated with blood cancers and wondered if anyone has experienced the same before diagnosis

Msny Thanks for any help on this

  • Hi  and I am sorry to read about the journey you have had.

High Ferritin levels can be related to various health conditions not only blood cancers…….

There are over 100 different types of blood cancer spread across Lymphoma’s, Leukaemia’s, Myeloma and some of the rare myelodysplasia (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), essential thrombocythaemia (ET), polycythaemia vera (PV) and myelofibrosis (MF)

I have been on my journey with 2 rare types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas for over 25 years and have had Ferritin issues but this was only during treatments.

Let’s look for you to get clear answers soon.

  • Thanks Mike - your time and comments are appreciated- I guess I will have to await the liver scan and further tests before I can determine what’s causing my symptoms

  • Stavros, over my 25 years journey I have been investigated for a number of other cancers but all came back negative….. the body makes this living thing complicated at times.
