Newbie here in relation to kidney.

Was discovered after having breast cancer and has been monitored since.

I get by putting 'it' in a locked cupboard  and dealing with it when I have appointments and what have you.But I have to unlock that cupboard a bit more again.

Atm it's a 23 mm slow growing cancer I'm told.waiting to hear from professionals.

Been trying to lose weight.lost 10 kilos so far in 5ish months.however never been slim.

Anything you might want to share would be appreciated.

  • Welcome!  I would like to say that I love your concept of putting it in a cupboard, where it belongs.

They don't normally do anything until they reach 4cm, because they are too difficult to operate on when that small.

  • Thank you for answering.im learning how to navigate this site again. I guess from people's writing each cancer is different.i don't fancy having to open the cupboard but needs must i feel like i have some control in my head.I never received notification of your reply.

I've got an appointment tomorrow to ' chat'.

    all the best to you.

  • Well done losing weight.  I hope "The chat" went OK.

  • Thank you, It's a long process losing weight and what with Christmas food makes it harder but I'm trying.

The chat was to assess my risk under anaesthetic and talk over my rather extensive medical history.

Pros and cons of surgeries etc.

    Ablation

    Laparascopic partial nephrectomy

    Robotic partial nephrectomy

    Full removal

I'm edging towards robotic partial nephrectomy.difficult for surgeon to get to laparascopically, don't want full removal hence my thoughts. I have time to think over.

    Any thoughts?

  • As someone who has always struggled with weight issues I know how difficult it is to lose weight, so well done for making the effort. I was worried that my weight would cause problems but was reassured by the consultant. I had a laparoscopic nephrectomy, as advised by the consultant. This was my second cancer, too, having had uterine cancer many years ago and  this time recovery was much less painful and quicker.

  • This issue does seem age related but when my complete kidney was removed I just felt total relief.

  • I have just joined the forum yesterday.  What helped me, was naming my cancer. The word cancer scared me so using names I felt more in control...my renal cancer was called Rufus and my lymph was Lydia...even my medical team referred to them as that too. Well done for your weight loss. Mine is my smoking... I gave up for a while and stupidly started again. I am now trying to make that leap again...hugs and all the very best..x

  • All I can go on is my experience...I had full robotic nephrectomy with lymph removal. My consultant and nursing team are amazing so I felt very safe. I was only in hospital for a couple of days and good pain relief made me very comfortable. Scar is really quite small and healed quickly. It's called ziggy and gets moisturised and pampered daily. I am 9 months on and I have no discomfort at all. Smileywish you well in whatever decision u make....Smiley

  • I gave my cancer a name that I probably can't put on here, as the moderators won't like it!

But it was named after a certain country leader who is in the habit of invading neighbouring countries! Just like my kidney cancer has.....

  • Thank you all for taking time to answer me.it is appreciated.

I like the idea of calling it a name.i used to call it it lol.

I realise everyone s journey is different and personal but it is hard isn't it.

Stupid as it seems I had to have a double mastectomy at different times.i read that kidney cancer and everything is very different.is that the case?

Wishing you all well and a most happy healthy Christmas
