Hi
I was diagnosed with stage 4 RCC in Sept 2023. I had a 10cm tumour on my kidney and 4 mets in my lungs it was found by chance and I didn’t have any real symptoms. I was 48 at the time and I have two teenage children.
I went in for a full nephrectomy in Oct 23 which had to be abandoned due to attachment to the duodenum. By this point I was in shock and feeling pretty awful. I met my oncologist in Nov and started immunotherapy in Dec 23. I had Ipimibulab and Nivolumab.
Since starting the treatment it has been passed twice due to significant reactions. I have had a 12 types of reactions to date including reactive arthritis and colitis.
Whilst these have been challenging the good news is that the treatment is working. My lungs are now clear and my kidney tumour is 4cm. I am due to go back for surgery next week to try to remove the kidney and tumour again.
When I started this journey I was in a very dark place but with the support of my family, friends and communities like this I realised that I am strong and I can fight this. I am a warrior and remind myself of this on a regular basis.
Sending positive energy and strength to all the warriors out there fighting this disease
