Solid mass

Hi, i had a scan 2 weeks ago, i was told that the mass is solid and 6.5x6x6cm in size. Im not sure if this is considered large or not and no idea what kind of surgery they will want to do, all they've said so far is it should be cured with intent. They are assuming it's cancer but im a bit lost as to what will happen and how fast things will move forward, my test results are being discussed by an expert kidney surgeon and the cmdt. Has anyone had a mass the same size ish as mine and if so what was your experience.

Thanks

  • That's good news, it's amazing how you can get a different response from a different person but yep it does seem to happen quite a lot.  Glad that this is one less stress for you to have to deal with.

  • Yeah it is good news, about time i got some, 6 weeks is a long time to wait, i do hope they give you your op soon, ive been waiting 3 weeks, the consultant said its normally 4 to 6 weeks but would try and get me in as soon as possible, ive gone for the trial and they have told me ive been put in for a partial nephrectomy, the consultant said a partial would be very difficult because of where it is, apparently its protruding in to the urinary drain so risk of leaking afterwards and could end up being full nephrectomy but wont know till hes in there, i would ask someone whats happening with the op date but know idea who i would ask.

  • Thanks, I so hope I get a date soon.  It sounds like you should hear soon then.  Did they give you a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) when they diagnosed you?  Not sure if they do that in all hospitals but if they did you could perhaps try contacting them and asking for an update?

    • Yeah I did get a cns, i rang the number last week and got an answer phone, so left my details but not heard anything back. Will try again if i dont get a reply monday.
  • I waited 4 weeks then called the CNS they informed me that no date had been scheduled even though I was told 3-4 weeks when I was diagnosed, but the call kicked started the process. I have my pre op assessment tomorrow and a I have my surgery on Thursday. I think it would be wise to call and chase up. I felt so much better actually getting a date, though I’m feeling a little nervous about the operation, can’t win ehy! Good luck and hope you get a date soon x

  • I called them today, finally spoke to someone instead of an answer phone, they said theres a long wait for surgery but they will send my details over the the team sorting it out and they should call me to discuss whats happening, hopefully someone will call me soon and I'll have some idea whats going on. At this rate im going to have to get an extension on my sick note, cant claim universal credit as i have to do a joint application with my partner who doesn't work due to disability and her doctor is dragging their feet on giving her a sick note as without hers we cant make a claim. Seems theres no help when you really need it, yet the system will help lazy people who dont want to work. So im in limbo at the moment and dont know what to do.

  • Hi Simon, I felt exactly the same waiting for the date, I called up and they hadn’t scheduled anything but once the admissions team were involved it was pretty swiftly that they got me in, hopefully this will be the same for you best of luck x

  • I recieved a text yesterday saying i have a telephone prep for surgery call on the 18th so am assuming thats the pre op, thought i would have to go in to the hospital for that. Still no idea when the op will be though as nobody has called me like they said they would, guess I'll have to ask when i get a call on the 18th.

Good luck for thursday. Hope all goes well.

  • I went in for a prostatectomy in 2021. They had to abandon the op as they found that I had a 14/10/20 cm renal tumour. They went for removal of the whole kidney. All went well for about a year after the op. I now have advanced renal cancer. I have metastatic outbreaks in both lungs, pancreas and liver. My prognosis now is now more about control and not cure. Hope this helps in some way. X

  • Sorry to hear about your situation, having it taken out is no guarantee its gone, ive was a heavy smoker for 25 years so thought if i was going to get cancer it would be somewhere else.

I hope i stay all clear after the op but i wont be shocked if it comes back or appears in another place, i will be disappointed, more with myself but then im the one who smoked so no one else to blame

I hope things improve for you as much as they can.
