Hi, i had a scan 2 weeks ago, i was told that the mass is solid and 6.5x6x6cm in size. Im not sure if this is considered large or not and no idea what kind of surgery they will want to do, all they've said so far is it should be cured with intent. They are assuming it's cancer but im a bit lost as to what will happen and how fast things will move forward, my test results are being discussed by an expert kidney surgeon and the cmdt. Has anyone had a mass the same size ish as mine and if so what was your experience.
Thanks
Hi Simon, my own experience was that surgery was organised very quickly and it was made very clear what I was facing. My tumour was in right kidney with 8cm in my kidney and 8cm extending into my inferior vena cava (toward heart &lung). Radical surgery two weeks after my diagnosis which have me little time to worry about it. Surgery end of August and back at work almost full time now. My operation was in London 60 miles from home but was lucky to have lots of visitors for my 10 day stay. Wishing you successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
Hi, had my ct on the 22nd and all i know is the results were sent to the expert kidney surgeon and the cmdt for discussion, they told me the size after the ultra sound but have not said where the mass is. My issue is not knowing anything, i know its not been long but i dont know how long i should wait before asking for information or who to ask. Hope i wont have to wait to long before i hear about whats happening. I dont mind the fact i wont have any visitors, my partner is disabled so cant expect her to make the 100 mile round trip to the hospital.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. It means a lot. I am trying to down play my fear as I can see everyone’s sorrowful face when they hear the news which is actually more upsetting than the diagnosis at this point, I have felt so tired and really out of breath but I have also just this week been diagnosed with mild aortic stenosis and moderate to severe aortic regurgitation which im worried will affect my chances to have the operation. I feel quite positive around the operation as it should hopefully remove all the cancer. The only good thing I suppose is that they will speed up my investigations with my heart. I hope they get in touch with you soon as I know how worrying the wait can be. Wishing you luck and sending positive thoughts.
It must be hard for you to have that on top of the cancer, from what ive seen kidney cancer seems to be the the better one to be diagnosed with as its very treatable with just surgery, i hope your heart issue doesnt get in the way for your operation and that they can sort your heart out, the hardest part for me is the waiting and not knowing.
As you have 2 issues their looking at they might speed things up for you so you might be lucky and get everything sorted quite quickly.
I hope everything goes well for you and they get you back to normal soon.
Sorry to hear it has spread, did you have it removed? The doctor is going to set an appointment so i can discuss whats going to happen with me, not sure when that will be but should get some idea of whats going on. Just a waiting game at the moment.
Yes I do believe that kidney seems to be one of the better ones, I actually feel a bit of a fraud people are being so sympathetic and helpful and I keep saying I dont need the help because I will be fine once they remove my kidney!
I am under the care of a good London hospital and I was fortunate to have both heart and kidneys tested at the same hospital so it shouldn’t take too long for each department to liaise. The wait is agonising though. I think that I’m slowly coming out of shock and it’s beginning to sink in. I am staying away from Google as it will convince me I am already dead!
Anyway thank you again and I hope you get some more information on your operation etc soon.
To late lol, i started googling from when i got home after they told me about the mass. Im more worried about the op than the cancer, not keen on hospitals and ive had procedures where ive been knocked out and really didnt like the experience. My main worry is that i drive hgvs for a living and work through an agency so i will only get statutory sick pay while im off which will be 20% of normal pay so things will be very tight and i cant afford to have to much time off as my partner is disabled and on the lowest pip payment so im the one who pays the mortgage and bills.
