Hi all, I have received my op date for a full right kidney removal in 5 weeks. I believe it’s called a nephrectomy… getting used to these medical terms after not experiencing anything like this. I had an abdominal ultrasound in June after experiencing discomfort in that area to then be phoned by my gp the very next day to be told they had discovered a 4.5cm lump in my right kidney.  My husband and I had just landed in Rome for the start of our 20th wedding anniversary long weekend.
You can imagine how scared we were on receiving the news but we were glad we were away so we could be distracted.

I’m a 52 year old fitness instructor and feel the fittest I’ve ever been and gave up alcohol almost 3 years ago so I feel ready for the op. It just feels so unfair but I feel grateful that it was found as has been growing for at 15 years!
I’m planning on taking at least 2 months off work and will see how I feel as I go on as know it’ll take time to recover from the op plus internal healing.

Anyway, I just felt I wanted to join something with people who are going through or been through the same operation / experience.

  • Hi Davina M welcome to the forum and I hope you dont mind but Ive popped over from another thread as I saw that you hadnt had a reply as yet.

You are absolutely correct in that you have come to the right place to meet others who have had the same procedure and Im sure that some of them will be along soon to welcome you again and get to know how they can help you as well.

  • Hi there and thank you very much for your comment. I’ve interacted with a couple of people and it’s great chat with people who are going through similar symptoms / operations.
    I hope you’re well.

  • I have come to realise that not one among us was told the news in a proper and appropriate way. It is what it is.
