Stage 1 cancer & Kidney Failure

Hi,

My mom has just been diagnosed with stage 1 kidney cancer but is already on the transplant list as her kidneys are failing.

I'm just wondering if anyone has been in the same situation as there are so many variables and I'm confused.

Will they do a nephrectomy? She will be left with 1 poorly kidney instead of two.

I also want to be tested to donate my kidney but have not heard back despite chasing and I first enquired several months ago.

I'm too overweight to donate right now and I have a telephone appointment for weight loss support, I am hoping for weight loss injections but again can't find much information on whether this causes any issues donating a kidney.

I appreciate this may be a niche post as 2 separate health issues but if anyone has been through similar I'd really like to hear your experiences as I'm just at a loss right now for what our options are.

  • Hello   I have just come across your post and am sorry to find it unanswered. I can't answer it myself as I have a different cancer, however by me replying your post will be "bumped" back to the top of the forum so other Community members will see it and I hope respond.

It may well be a good idea for you or your mom to contact your team and see if you can establish where they are Regarding the possible transplant. regarding the wight loss injections, You could use our Ask a Nurse that question. Just click on the link I have provided and then ask your question. It can take a couple of days for a reply.

I hope the above helps. Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thank you so much, you've given me something to pursue. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.

  • It's no problem - this cancer club is something that bonds us all together and having "been there - done that" I am happy to help where I can.

If you are struggling to get anywhere with the hospital - you can always contact the PALS office - Patient Advice and Liaison Service - and ask them to chase up your mom's case.

Good luck and best wishes - Brian.
