Chromophobe renal cancer

Hello, I'm a 51-year-old woman, and this is my first post, but I've been reading this forum since my diagnosis of Kidney cancer in December 2024.

My partial nephrectomy was on 5th February and last week I've got the pathology result: StageT1a Chromophobe renal cell cancer. The tumor was 3,5x3 cm.  When I asked the grade, my urologist told me that Chromophobe has no grade and a good prognosis, as it's less aggressive than others. It's quite difficult to understand why they don't classified it as a grade 1 or 2, if it is slow growing.

Every input and information about Chromophobe renal cell cancer will be very appreciated. Thank you in advance.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I didn't have this type of cancer, so can't share any experiences with you, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

  • Hi - I've done a search on who has posted about chromophobe renal caner and I'm tagging folk here for greater visibility    .  All the best.

  • Hi , how are you ? I’ve just been diagnosed with chromophobe after a full nephrectomy . No further treatment just 3 monthly scans for a year , then 5 year monitoring which really surprised me . Any info would be gratefully received

  • Hi! Sorry, I did not read your message before. I'm very well, just had my CT scan that came back clear.

In my case, I had a CT scan 3 months after surgery, then 2 scans every six months and next scan will be in 9 months. I too will be monitored for 5 years.

Be strong and don't panic with the scans, recurrence rate is very low with this kind of cancer. Wish you the best

  • Huge thanks for replying especially today . Today I had my First scan ! Spooky !!! Glad you are still all clear , it really gives me hope going forward . Take care . Xxxxx
