Hiya everyone, I'm AuntieTJ82 and I'm new here.
I found out a couple of weeks ago that my eldest cousin on my mum's side of my family has been diagnosed with kidney cancer which has spread to his spine.
He's only 45 (he's just over 2 years older than me). He's a dad and grandad.
My cousin's mum is my mum's twin sister.
He's currently in a cancer centre having treatment.
My mum has gone to visit him.
My cousin told my mum that the visiting hours are from 10am to 8pm but they are very flexible with the times as my cousin's mum had got lost when she first went to visit him and she didn't get to him until 9.30pm, but the staff allowed my auntie to still see my cousin. My cousin also told my mum that the 8pm visit end is for visitors who are being noisy and loud.
Hello AuntieTJ82
Welcome to the Online Community.
I am really sorry to hear that your cousin has had a diagnosis of kidney cancer with some spread to his spine. I understand that this is a difficult time for you and I hope that you will find the Online Community as supportive and informative as I have.
I hope that your cousins treatment is going ok and that he is being well looked after.
I am glad that his Mum managed to get into see him and that the nurses were flexible with the visiting times. It is easy to get lost when visiting someone in hospital- they are often really big places.
It is always a difficult time when a family member has a diagnosis and one where you may need extra support and have questions. If talking things through would help, please do give the Support Line a call. They are there from 8am-8pm daily. They can also have a look to see what support may be available in your local area.
If there is anything you need or want to ask about please do so- there are many lovely people on the Online Community who will understand and want to offer support.
You may also find it helpful to have a look at this forum as well.
