Recently diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma and awaiting kidney removal! Absolutely devastated and dreading it.

  • Definitely onwards and upwards!! Might see you there!

  • If you read this forum you will soon see there are loads of radical nephs all doing well and thriving. Please do not fear the operation too much. It is not as bad as you might think. Best wishes. Please let us know how you are getting on.

  • Hi, I had my kidney and ureter removed in August, the op and recovery went well. Wishing you all the very best

  • I am not sure cancer is ever entirely "over" for any of us. We are all living with cancer even in remission. Sorry but that is the truth. Get ready for the long haul mentally at least.

  • Hi Arney,

    To answer your question about symptoms, Below are some of the early warning signs of kidney cancer, I’ve shown what my symptoms were but I only realised this after the diagnosis:-

    * Low back pain or pressure on one side that doesn’t go away - YES
    * Blood in your urine - NO
    * A mass or lump on the side or lower back - NO
    * Fatigue - YES.... Massively!!!!!
    * Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss - SADLY NOT!!
    * Night sweats - YES
    * Anemia (low red blood cell count) DON’T KNOW
    * Swelling of the ankles and legs - A LITTLE
    * In men, a cluster of enlarged veins, called a varicocele, around a testicle, typically, the right testicle..... OH YES!!! And for me a great cause of pain and discomfort and the reason for going to my GP who started the ball rolling (please excuse the pun)

    Hope this helps

  • I definitely had night sweats and swollen left testicle. Fatigue too.

  • Loss of appetite or unexplained weight loss - SADLY NOT!!

    Well you made me laugh, thank you!!
