Hi guys. I don’t even know if I should be here. Hubby went to hospital on Thursday as he tweaked his back and was in agony. They did an mri scan and it showed a tumour on his kidney. He had 2 scans yesterday that said there is definitely something suspicious on his left kidney and today he will be having a ct scan. I am scared, shocked and more words than I can say. He only hurt his back! I know it’s a blessing he did but I am so scared. Dad just had bladder cancer and I lost my mum to cancer when I was 12. Any advice and help would be great. I don’t know what the outcome is gonna be xx

  • Hi welcome to the kidney cancer group.

How did the CT scan go? Sorry it's taken a while for me to be in touch.

The good thing (?) about kidney cancer is it's a slow grower, compared to other cancers. The other good thing is that there are lots of treatments around n more being developed all the time

Once your husband has a treatment plan in place, things will feel a lot better, coz you'll know what to expect. The usual thing is to remove the kidney and often that's the end of it all. But should he need further treatment then see above.

Do let us know how he gets on n if you've more questions then someone in the group's probably been there n done that too.

Hi buttercup01 thanks for replying.  The results show he has Left renal cell carcinoma.  We are trying to be positive and just waiting for a letter from the hospital to see what the next step is.  You are so right about not knowing making you worry etc.  Once we know what his treatment is then we can move forward a bit.

  • Welcome Lj12,

As buttercup01 once your husband has his plan and the cancer has not spread, it could mean good news for him as the treatments for kidney cancer are coming on leaps and bounds, try to keep positive and stay safe take care of yourself as well as your husband

  • Hi if you want to be here you should be here!  I was in a similar position to your hubby in that I had a minor stomach problem and got a scan for it and was told at the time "there's a spot on your kidney we need to look at".  Two months later I was in surgery because of a 4cm lesion on one of my kidneys.  It's been scary and at times horrible but ultimately I am one of the lucky ones - it was spotted before I had symptoms, I had surgery and I am now minus one kidney but they got all of the cancer out and I'm told that it's unlikely to return given the analysis of the tumour.

Take it as a plus that this has been spotted at this stage before any symptoms and go through the treatment process.  There's every chance that it might end up being little more than a minor problem and, if it is more significant, it is being addressed now rather than in a few years time when the situation might be more serious.

I can understand why you're scared and shocked, I am still dealing mentally with my diagnosis 6 months later even though I am now physically fine.  But take strength from the fact that he had no symptoms so it has probably not developed very far and there's a good chance that the situation can be managed very effectively.  Good luck.

  • Well said @n1 associate n @sandrs55

Thank you.  He has his appointment with the consultant on Thursday, so we will know more then. Its just been tough as he left hospital knowing nothing, they gave him no info etc but we will be able to ask questions on thursday.

  • Good luck re Thurs. Make sure you note answers down to any questions you ask.

Hi all , newly diagnosed here as well , I am waiting to see the consultant after being scanned CT, MRI, Ultrasound, lots of blood tests and a biopsy on what they thought was prostrate turns out to be Kidney cancer . very daunting and lots to take in but glad to read some positive posts.

i am in the Warwickshire area and will be going to Coventry university hospital for the Kidney removal . which is looking like August , the biggest mental thing for me is the wondering if it is anywhere else as I don't know and after asking the question could not get an answer , has anyone else had this and when do you find out ?
