How can you fight against your very low appetite?
My daughter tries to cook me anything nice and tasty food. But I am less and less able to eat enough.
Any good advice please?

Hi Marigold, I was like this during my first four cycles of Niv/ Ipi, constantly being sick and not interested in food at all. I was referred to a dietitian and prescribed Ensure drinks which helped with energy levels etc. and each one is 300 cal. I had three per day. when I had an adverse reaction to my treatment it was stopped for three months and I was then on steroids which brought my appetite back with a vengeance. The steroids were on a reducing dose over 12 weeks then I re started my Niv treatments and my appetite has remained good since then. That was August 2024. I hope you get some help to get some calories in. Hopefully a dietitian can help you, maybe asked to be referred.

I had a phase many years ago - not connected to any illness or anything in particular; might have been hormones as looking back I was peri-menopausal but didn't know it - when I couldn't eat breakfast. I was working hard and knew I ought to be having something in the morning to set me up for the day but the thought of solid food turned my stomach - literally. I was fine from lunchtime onwards, but not in the morning.
What I did was buy packs of Complan, and I would have a liquid breakfast. Complan has all the nutrients in and I'm wondering if this would work for you, at least some of the time? It doesn't take much effort to slug down a beaker of liquid and you don't really need an appetite to do that - though do pick flavours you can tolerate. I couldn't stand the chocolate one - just my non-preference.
It's possible to get enough nutrients this way if you replace one or two meals with that.
You could perhaps also try soup. Would your daughter make you some tasty home made soups such as vegetable? A small bowl of that would give you lots of fibre and that would help nourish you and fill you, without having to ingest really very much.
I hope you get your appetite back but as long as you are taking in good nutrients in some form or other, the amount of food intake is less important than is the quality, at the moment.
