Hi everyone

First off, I must stress this is by no means "scare mongering". Only genuine concern and passing on relevant information, for everyone here! I noticed today an email that had gone directly to my junk mail, 3 days ago.  Heading was (Important information about treatments for coronavirus). I guess as a recently diagnosed cancer patient, it elevated me to the Highest at risk Category concerning Coronavirus. To be honest I never even gave covid a 2nd thought, after learning I now have cancer. I use Outlook, and it was sent to junk mail. Check yours folks. (new and existing members). It contains interesting and usefull information for all of us. May be if an admin picks up on this, it may be worth a community wide message possibly? I realise it's a delicate subject, with everything else we all have on our plates to contend/deal with.

I don't usually check junk mail, only delete it. I had recently, and this was the only item currently in the box. Worth a mention I thought, even if just to highlight it for anyone interested and not aware.

Your NHS number: xxxxxxxxxx
Your reference code: xxxxxxxxxx
Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Your medical records currently show you might be suitable for treatments if you get coronavirus.

This letter explains that:
1. You should keep lateral flow tests at home
2. You should take a test if you have coronavirus symptoms. Important: You must report your test result.
3. If you test positive, the NHS will contact you about treatments.

Why are we sending you this letter?
Health experts have looked at the health conditions which put people at more risk from coronavirus. Those health conditions have been agreed by UK chief medical officers.
We are contacting you because your medical records currently show that you have one or more of these health conditions. This means that treatments might be suitable for you if a test confirms you have coronavirus.

These treatments can stop you from getting seriously ill and need to be given quickly after you start to have symptoms.
1. You should keep lateral flow tests at home
The Government will automatically send you one pack of lateral flow tests which should arrive within the next two weeks. Please do not order more tests now, unless you develop symptoms before they arrive.
Only use tests if you develop symptoms. If you run out, you can order more from www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests or by calling 119.
You can use any lateral flow tests supplied by the Government. Tests bought from a shop (including pharmacies) cannot currently be registered via GOV.UK or 119 and you will not be contacted about treatment if you test positive using these tests.
2. You should take a test if you have coronavirus symptoms
If you have coronavirus symptoms you should take a lateral flow test immediately, even if your symptoms are mild.
You must report your result at www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result or by calling 119. It’s important to provide your NHS number and postcode correctly so you can be contacted.
If your test is negative but you still have symptoms, you should take another test on each of the next two days (three tests in total over three days).
3. If you test positive, the NHS will contact you about treatments
If any of your lateral flow tests are positive and you have reported the result, the NHS should contact you about treatment. If you are not contacted within 24 hours of your positive test, call your GP surgery, 111, or your specialist clinician (if you have one), who can make an urgent referral.

If you have an email address, please share it with your GP and any other NHS care providers so you can be contacted quickly with new information.

Yours sincerely

National Medical Director

  • Thanks for flagging this up and making sure people don't miss this email.

I got the same email a couple of weeks ago and the kit they mention  dropped through my letter box this week.

The Government will automatically send you one pack of lateral flow tests which should arrive within the next two weeks

It's good to see this proactive approach and know in advance what to expect. Hopefully everyone will stay safe and well.

  • Thank you! I felt it was important, but I was a little worried about stepping on toes, or unnecessarily worrying anyone.  It's important to remember although the media and most anywhere else you look these days, covid is behind us, and not a threat. But people are still catching it, and in some cases not surviving. I wish it wasn't, but it is something else we need to know. (Mine dropped on the mat the other day).

  • Ohhhhhh

I got a pack of lateral flows through and had no clue why. Just went to check my spam inbox and sure enough…..one email. Thanks for solving this mystery!
