I had my left kidney removed 4 months ago and unfortunately have had no follow since my operation, except a 5 minutes telephone call with the consultant.  I returned to work on a phased return after 7 weeks and I am now back to working full time in an office job.  Luckily my boss has been very considerate when I said I was feeling knackered and let’s me work from home a couple of days a week.

Most days I go to bed at 9pm and sleep for 10 hours but still wake up feeling shattered and feeling lethargic.  My blood test for my kidney function came back normal and my blood pressure has been quite low 91/58.

Should I check with my doctor everything is okay, or is this normal?  Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi  it is quite normal in som e cases  to feel exhausted but your blood pressure is quite low n needs checking out by a doctor.

You also don't mention if you're on any kind of medication. That would obv make a difference.

Go n see your GP if you can get a faxkce to face appt n explain how you feel or ring the helpline on 08908808 0000.

Thank you for your reply, I’m not on any medication and I suppose wondering what is going on inside is worrying,  I’ve hopefully got my 6 month scan in January and fingers crossed everything will be okay.

  • Hi Doris88,

It is quite normal for your blood pressure to go down when you have had the operation, but I think as it is now four months on you should have a face to face with your doctor just to make sure, when I had my operation I had a couple of funny turns with my blood pressure going low my consultant told me to not take any blood pressure tablets which I was on for a while, my blood pressure has righted  it self now and I am back on my tablets to keep it lower, don’t wait until January and your scan get it sorted so you can enjoy your Christmas break without worry.

I have phoned the Doctors and although he isn’t concerned about my low blood pressure readings he is going to send me for some blood tests to check my hemoglobin, diabetes and other functions.

  • Morning Doris,

I am glad they are going to do something for you, it is best to have a full blood count just to make sure your blood is fine, will they do that at your surgery for you, I have just tried my surgery for my blood test for my chemo in December, they tell me they have no appointments for the Monday 6th so they are going to call me back later, I hope you have a better outcome, let us know when you have the results back take care Sandy

Blood tests came back all normal, so I suppose it’s the operation and living with one kidney that is making me tired.

My oncologist refers to my having

" cancer fatigue". I wake up after a good night's sleep n am still tired. I'm also on thyroxine as my thyroid levels are low ( due to my meds but it also runs in the family)
