Hi group! My dad had a kidney removed 3 years ago. It was metastatic at that point.  He had a stroke a year ago and it transpires it had spread to his brain.  This is now stable  after gamma knife but he has had some more spread and sutent not suitable after brain bleeds.  Dr gave immunotherapy option but said 1/5 success and doesn’t  recommend.  Does anybody have experience of immunotherapy for advanced kidney cancer - we need to think if it is worth a shot. Not if it it makes dad really ill xx

  • Hi sid

i have stage 4 incurable kidney cancer and oncologist tried immunotherapy on my cancer. Unfortunately, it f do isn’t help and I had no side effects. I am now on cabozantinib and side effects of this is suddenly starting.

everybody, responds differently to treatment so your dad might not have any side effects at all.

I am sure there are people on here who are much more experienced than me and can answer you fully.

    good luck for your dad

    Regards

    Hi sid

My husband had his kidney removed in Oct.. He now has metastic renal cancer, its in his pelvis and a rib, he gets immunotherapy every 6 weeks, he's just had his 3rd round today and take antaxnibib twice a day.. He is doing well, some slight side effects.. But everything is explained in great detail, and we had nothing to loose  we said even if he has one bad week out of 6..its good .. He went bk to work on Sat on phased return.. But we feel as if he is benefitting from it, we were told if the cancer spreads the treatment would still help.. As others have said, different ppl react different to meds, I hope this helps,,, and good luck
