I have had pain almost every day in the area under my ribs and in my ribcage on the side that the surgery was done. i"ve been managing it with one 50mg tramadol a day and occasionally another one at night. They brought forward my first CT scan to check that it was nothing sinister and gave me the all clear. I saw the consultant urologist a couple of days ago and he was fairly dismissive saying that he couldn't think of a reason for the pain and made warning noises about using tramadol for any length of time because of risk of addiction. He was running late and basically stood over me to see me out of the door after 10 minutes. The last thing I want is to be addicted to tramadol but if I don't take it I find the pain gets in the way of my quality of life. Other drugs he mentioned I've looked up and they all seem to have problems with dependency and I can't see the point of stopping taking something that works to try something that has a long list of side effects.
I'd appreciate any thoughts.
Mags
Hi Mags152,
I had pain on the left side were the kidney was taken out, it did wear off but in December it will be 2 years I still get twinges, I must be quite lucky as I don’t need strong pain killers, maybe someone on this site maybe able to help you or if you speak to one of the Macmillem nurses they might have some suggestions for you.
I do know that some people do suffer from pain it is the body reaction too a missing part of your body
good luck
