I am 41 and have a small c. 2.5 cm tumor on my left kidney. It has not spread. However it is unclear whether it is actually cancer.
Due to its location close to an artery the biopsy was aborted and deemed too risky. I am told its a 70% chance of cancer although this can be lower in young patients.
The choice is either take it out by surgery, monitor it or attempt a risky biopsy which is not recommended. .
I chose surgery which is in 2 weeks. Robotic assisted surgery.
I would like to know if the long term effects of a partial nephrectomy have adverse impacts on future health and fitness? Where is the most authoritative source of information on this?
Hi Will1979
I am sorry I do not have any personal experience of thus, but noticed your post has not been answered. I have found this information sheet on kidney surgery HERE for you. If there are still questions you need answering, you can ask the nurse in the ask an expert section HERE or you can call the Macmillan support line on 0808 808 00 00 free of charge. They are open 7 days a week from 8am til 8pm.
Wishing you all the very best
