Hi everyone im posting again for my friend who has been diagnosed with Kidney Cancer she was initially told it was stage 1 grade 1 and she had her surgery and after a tough few weeks coming to terma with everything she got conselling and was doing really well... she has very young kids and is finding this so hard and is very scared...  her consutlant called her after about 7 weeks to say that they looked at tumor again and its grade 4 instead of grade 1 and she needed to see oncologist.... her Urinolgoist was very positive and said tumor although it was grade 4 it was only 5.5cm and jt was sucessfully removed it said it was microspocially in the renal vein nd simply because od that it would be classed stage 3 instead of stage 1 her margins were clear that was most important thing... im just looking ror anyone with similar story that can help her nd help her realise that things can be normal again and she can get over this. thanks for taking time to read

  • Hi ,

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend.  Perhaps you could encourage her to join the community herself as I'm sure that she would find it very helpful.  She might also want to consider calling the Macmillan helpline as they are very supportive and helpful.  They can also help her with looking at practical matters such as employment rights and benefits eligibility and help resolve some of the practical concerns.  They are on 0808 808 00 00 between 8am and 8pm.

Regarding positive stories there are plenty on here.  If she has had successful surgery then hopefully the cancer has gone and although she will worry she will simply be monitored, usually through CT scans, to make sure that there is no return.  It is to be expected that after such a diagnosis that your friend is concerned but after a successful operation and some time being monitored most people find that that can cope with out the support and drift away from the site.  People using the site tend to be like your friend where they have just been diagnosed or had surgery or those of us where it has spread.  At least one person that posts regularly has a friend who had kidney surgery and is still clear many years later which no sign of it returning.

I am in the latter group where the cancer has spread but I have been so for 5 years but there are others who have been in that situation for many more years than I have.

Wishing all the best to you and your friend,

    Gragon x

  • Hi @oli 7 Re what @gragon has said,

I've been living with kidney cancer for 15 years now, admittedly with mets and meds, but I'm still here -  which is encouraging for me and for your friend too

    Hi Oli 7

My best story is actually my friend. He was diagnosed 7 years ago. We had exactly the same histology 5.5cm tumour grade 3 stage pt3a.

He’s had absolutely no recurrence at all.

Lots of luck to your friend. She’s very lucky to have you.
