Hi All,

Just been diagnosed this week with cancer on my left kidney 4.5cm in size. Awaiting results of chest and abdominal scan to ensure that there is no other cancer and then being referred to a partial removal, luckily it sits nicely on the bottom of the kidney so they said it’s about the best place it could be for removal.

Not sure it’s really sunk in yet, can’t wait for the new scan results so I know for definite the rest of me is fine, then I guess the long wait for the surgery appointment.

It’s all just so scary having to wait all the time. I’ve also got AS (Ankylosing spondylitis) and have been on immunosuppressants for a long time now and been told I have to come of those which is already effecting my knees and back severely. Grimacing

  • I think finding the wait scary is a pretty normal reaction, Foxcb48ad. The waiting is horrible. I remember wanting the op as soon as possible, while being scared of it at the same time. I’m glad they have already told you that the position is optimal for removal because that does sound hopeful and suggests that your team are on the ball. Sorry to hear about the AS consequences, though. Best wishes.

  • Yes, the waiting . . . . .   it's awful.  The uncertainty and the shock.   You're very much in the worst stage right now.

It does get better though.  Easy for me to say, looking back.  I tried to take every day step-by-step, keep distracted or busy and at the weekend I ticked off another week.

There's always someone on here to chat or to vent frustrations . . . .

    Good luck.
