Morning, I’m not sure where to start

in July my dear dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer stage 2 high grade , and the opinion of removing his right kidney is out of the question, as his had two strokes and a quadruple heart surgery bypass , and they have said he would probably pass away on the table !
he has been in so much pain with no real support untill the last few weeks , we have been told that there is no treatment that will benefit him or the cancer ! The only thing is to offer radiotherapy as a pain management ,

which we go to hospital on the 15 nov to discuss

Im my parents main career as my mum has dementia too so it been very stressful trying to cope and do all the phone calling etc

just feeling very alone and helpless !

So very sorry to hear about your dad. My dad has been diagnosed with kidney cancer that has spread to liver and lungs. My advice is use your GP and ask for help, ask for district nurse support and ask for a social care referral too to see how they can help as well. Do your research on kidney cancer treatment options  so you can ask about different treatment options to discuss with your dad’s consultant at his next appointment. You can always ask for a second opinion. There are pain teams which his consultant could refer to to help manage pain. Ask about Macmillan nurse referral who can help with symptom management. Hope all goes ok for you. It’s terrible to see your parents suffer isn’t it? Xx

  • I have had good help from the community palliative care team and the hospice. My daughter freaked out a bit when I said the hospice was involved in my care but once she realised that they are helping me live well with cancer at this time she settled down so please don't be distressed when I say see if you can involve the hospice.

I hope you and your dad both get the help you need and your mam too of course
