Hi All
My Mum has had issues since Nov with polyps and what they thought was a cyst but a month ago was told it was cancer of the kidney. She then had 3 weeks ago a full CT scan to check her to see if gone to other areas of the body as they had concerns as 83 she might not be able to have a kidney removal. From point of having the CT scan how long should she be waiting max for a response to the CT scan? Its now 3 weeks and she is very stressed waiting for a treatment plan and more information. On top of this her partner of 30years died this year so grief and the cancer she is struggling and I am trying to just get her thro one days at a time at the moment but it is hard not knowing when to expect info. She was told on Fri bby Oncology the ct scan results were not thro yet.
Hi and welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with kidney cancer and that she is waiting for the results of a CT scan to see if it has spread. I haven't had a scan but I do recognise the feelings of anxiety that waiting for results can cause.
When she spoke to oncology last Friday did they give her an idea of when they would expect the results? If not could she give her CNS a call and find out how long the wait is normally. I find that if I know a timescale then it helps me to remain relaxed, well as relaxed as I can be.
Your mum might find this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical test results helpful as it give lots of useful information and tips on ways to cope.
It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Do come back and let us all know how she gets on
