Hi all

It's been an eventful 4th week. Ade had his 2nd and final carboplatin chemo on Tuesday. We also celebrated the half way mark of radiotherapy on the same day. We have now completed 20/35 sessions of radiotherapy.

At the beginning of week 3 he was admitted to have the PEG fitted. Unfortunately this was abandoned as when he was under sedation he sat up and tried to touch his throat.

So at the beginning of this week (4) he had the RIG fitted. It was a horrific and traumatic experience for him. We pressed and pressed for a tube be fitted prior to treatment and if you are in the same position I suggest you press some more so you don't have to go through what Ade did. He is now much less sore now however.

He managed to eat his Christmas lunch including some meat and gravy, followed by some trifle. He is struggling with a bland taste but is still ploughing on. He's still only taking paracetamol and mouthwash for the sore throat and we haven't put anything through the tube yet. He's drinking cool tea and water.

He worked up until Monday morning before his RIG fitting ( week 4 - radiotherapy 17/35 )and only stopped because his company closed for Xmas. He's also still driving.

He has 15 more sessions to go, roll on week 5 beginning on Monday. We are coping and hanging on in there. Taking each day as it comes and just carrying on moving forward. Just 3 more weeks, then we begin recovery at home.

  • Hi

Your husband is really doing well and good job his tube has settled.

Just 3 more weeks, then we begin recovery at home.

Be prepared for the first two weeks after treatment to be just as bad as the last two before. Losing that wrap around care is somewhat traumatic too but it’s a time for snuggling down and healing. Hugs.

  • Hi Dani

We plan to do just that. It's nice that Jan/Feb are months for staying in and snuggling up anyway.

  • Good luck and as Dani said…but, great job for half the CT Blush we all passed that point… it is rough but worth it Pray
