Discharge papers have me worried

It means there are cancer cells in one or more lymph nodes 

I must say it seems pretty quick for pathology results. 

But they never told me that prior to discharge and they wouldn’t see it during surgery. As you it’s a bit quick for results 

Call your CNS on Monday for an explanation? 

I’m having my clips out Monday so will see them anyway.  I just wanted to see if anyone else  had this experience. 

My husband had a precautionary neck dissection with partial glossectomy. They told us next day that one lymph node was in fact cancerous. That was on the basis of seeing it, not pathology (which was of course done, and confirmed the diagnosis). So yes, can be diagnosed ‘by eye’, at least in some cases.

It could be that they did a frozen section during the surgery.  A rough and ready pathology examination to help guide the surgeon as to what they are seeing.  I had one during a planned partial glossectomy that showed the tumour had gone between biopsy and the surgery...  They abandoned the operation.
