ORAL CANCER - GOOD NEWS

Hi all

Don't know how to find my previous posts but just to say that 51 weeks ago I was terrified when my dentist found the "suspicious areas" inside my cheek which did turn out to be Stage 2 cancer. The fear of the treatment (radiotherapy and three lots of biopsies) was worse than the actual treatment. Waiting is not something I have ever been good at. There is a lot of waiting with cancer treatment.

But I've just had the news (by phone from my consultant's secretary) that the last scan was all clear. He wanted her to phone cos he is too busy to see me for another month, and understands what waiting is like.

Grateful thanks to everyone on here who helped me through this.

Now I need to think of a gift for my wonderful dentist and the staff at the surgery, plus a donation to Cancer Research.

Good luck to all who are in the position of still fighting their cancers.

  • Well done Meg. I spotted your other post too. Im overjoyed. I know what these setbacks feel like.

I keep bees so gifts of honey needed no imagination but on my last visit my oncologist got  a very decent bottle of bubbles and the girls Prosecco and a big fruit basket

  • Hi Dani

It took a bit of thinking for me as to what gift to get my prosthodontist and team at the Dental Hospital on completion of my upper denture. They had done such an amazing job and I wanted to show them my appreciation. They have so much expertise and patience.  I would normally give chocolates but thought that might not be right for a dental team who are so into dental hygiene etc. I ended up buying them all a fancy gift pack of assorted nuts tied up with a bow. They were very appreciative. I don't think they get thanked enough for the amazing work they do.

    That sounds amazing

I really tried with my team. Even the radiographers, who I didn't see at all after treatment, got something at Christmas.

This year I'm going to pop (ha ha it's fifty miles) over to The Morriston with something .....Stan doesn't know yet...He always used to grumble about it.

But you're right. A little gesture goes a long way

  • Hi Sophie

I like the idea of nuts. The shops are full of different sorts towards Christmas and not everyone thinks of buying them for themselves.

I will put in some dried fruits as well.

    Thanks for the idea.
