Oral Thrush

Hi oral thrush is common it’s not necessarily the mouth wash,radiation induced oral thrush is what I had. Only meds that get rid of it is Flucozonole on prescription the nystatin and daktartin don’t work for radiation induced. Contact his cancer nurse or gp  I found my cancer nurse more up to date than g p.

Difflam 

If the Difflam is painful he can dilute it 50/50 

Thrush thrives in the sweet environment we have in our mouths if we are taking Ensures and Fortisips orally. I always rinsed my mouth out well with sparkling water. 
As hazel says. If he has thrush he needs Fluconazole 

His mouth isnt painful, and he has no ulcers, so I wonder if he still needs the Difflam.  The head and neck nurse said to keep taking the mouthwash despite the thrush...

Difflam is a non steroidal anti inflammatory. Msybe that’s why his mouth is so comfortable 

I would go with what his CNS says but bring it up at the next review? 

When we don't have saliva, we are a lot more prone to oral fungal infections.I use salty water to rinse my mouth every day and I was also prescribed Nystan to treat a fungal infection I had developed in my mouth.

Thanks Fabienne....how long did you use the mouthwash they gave you for? I cant recall what we were told about how long...

Not post-treatment but I had it early on in my radiotherapy. Fluconozole improved it dramatically in 24 hours or so.
