What a difference 12 hours can make, had my 2week review yesterday and felt okay but a few hours later it was becoming quite painful to swallow. Overnight it has gradually got worse and now it feels as if my throat is swollen, I suppose this is the start of what is to come xx

I’m a big moaner really
Heavens, Lilian, we are entitled to be.
Oncologists say that radiotherapy to the mouth and throat is the worst kind to get.
My pain ramped up to to a crescendo by the end of 4 weeks but when I got the analgesia sorted I was fine. Ok I still hurt but it was manageable
The paracetamol is fine. It’s a useful adjunct to the morphine. Ask you radiographers because you can take a lot of morphine. It just makes you sleepy. I was told I could take it every two hours if needed but I didn’t. The deal breaker was long acting morphine morning and night. This controlled back ground pain pretty well. I had MST Continus but other folk had Fentanyl patches. Tell them you’re still in pain. There’s no need to be

My mouth is so dry
Ask for something like Biotene gel. There are plenty of saliva substitutes like Saliva Orthana too.
If you email cChris Curtis at The Swallows he’ll send you a support box with all sorts of mouth goodies Chris@theswallows.org.uk
invest in a small spray bottle and use that to freshen your mouth. One spray when you need it.

All your meds can go that way. And Fortisips or Ensures once you’re in them. You need to dilute them with a little water.

I have soluble paracetamol so do I flush before and after I put my meds in the peg? I have never been given any instructions other than to flush twice a day xxLillian
I used soluble panadol. Dissolve in a glass of water. Let it go flat. Syringe it via your PEG. Flush before & after meds.
