What a difference 12 hours can make, had my 2week review yesterday and felt okay but a few hours later it was becoming quite painful to swallow. Overnight it has gradually got worse and now it feels as if my throat is swollen, I suppose this is the start of what is to come xx

Yep. That’s the way it goes but don’t panic. You’re prepared. Make a list of the pain meds you’re taking and when. Take them by the clock and tick them off. Don’t wait for pain. When my pain got significant I took my analgesics every two hours, paracetamol alternating with oromorph. When the background pain got too nasty to ignore I had long acting morphine twice a day. It really worked and I was comfortable, if a little sleepy, through treatment.
Lilian, if the meds aren’t working don’t suffer, tell your radiographers.
Keep going

At the moment the only painkillers I have is paracetamol, who do I ask for stronger ones? xx
I have had a cold for 2 weeks and the last couple of days I have been running a fever and temperature.
I am taking soluble paracetamol but I am struggling to get even yogurt and semolina down.
I know that it will have to run its course but I have lost weight and I am concerned that if it doesn’t go away I will lose even more weight. I am literally drained and so weak and I would be grateful for any advice.
Thankyou Lillian xx
I am going to start using my peg soon Hazel although I was hoping not to have to. I was shocked how quickly it came on x

I have been given Oramorph but the paracetamol don’t seem to be strong enough. I am only in the middle of week 3, does the pain continue to worsen or does it plateau? I feel like such a complainer but through the night and mornings are the worst. Even drinking water is painful xx

Hi. For me the pain got worse & from week 4 I was on paracetamol then added in codeine & by week 6 was on morphine too. I had all meds in liquid form via the PEG from week 4. Plus overnight feeds via a pump & PEG.
Hi Lillian the pain can plateau out around week 4-5 but does continue for a good few weeks afterwards. Can yiu ask for co codomol or maybe MST which is a long lasting oramorph or even fentanyl patches. Just make sure you take laxido or movicol daily. The treatments brutal but remember the results are worth it.

ps water try bottled water or if even resorted to water bring warmed in microwave for 15 seconds so I coukd drink. Often tap water even tastes now like bleach so I have a filter. If you live in a hard water area that won’t help. Xx
