Hi everyone, can anybody suggest anything for burning/sore tongue & sore soft pallet, the mouthwashes I have don’t seem to be helping as they sting even with extra water , painkillers not really TOUCHING it either .Week 1 post radiotherapy & never felt as groggy as I do now , just when I was starting to eat a bit of yoghurt orally too , everything seems to sting .Does this settle down at all ? HAZEL you were right , as usual XX

  • I came off all pain relief as I was no longer in pain , I’m hardly on any now as it’s not really a pain it’s just sore , I took painkillers yesterday but still felt sore xx

That's still pain Aly. It hurts when you put anything in your mouth and when you swallow. Your background pain caused by the cancer has gone but your treatment pain remains. That's par for the course.

Time and being gentle with your mouth. That's what it takes

Oh and I know what you mean about the Oxetecaine. I couldn't stomach it either.

  • Yes I’ve started with my codeine again & the only mouthwash I use now is the aspirin & raspberry, pains always worse between about 10 in the morning until 3.30 , strange isn’t it xx

  • Hi Aly

have you tried Difflam?? I found thst useful at one stage c

  • Hi yes I’ve tried that before diagnosis & during treatment , it doesn’t do much for me to be honest plus I don’t want to put too many mouthwashes in my mouth as it’s sensitive at the moment .Aspirin & raspberry seems to sooth it a bit x

  • It’s a pity we can’t get magic mouthwash. The Americans seem to swear by it.

  • Yes i know what you mean. I had so many different ones and i found that different ones worked well at different times of the journey. Fingers crossed things improve for you soon x

  • Thank you , so depressing xx

  • It is depressing if you let it. You will get better. Just take it slowly and don’t set yourself unrealistic goals. A day at a time.
Once you feel a little better you can set that horizon that little bit further away. You’ll ge surprised how quickly this becomes just a memory.

  • I thought after a week I would be able to at least grate a piece of cheese & cut a few potatoes in half without it wearing me out ! This really is a slow process & I can’t feel or see any improvements daily xx
