Just a quick update, so the longest day ever yesterday but finally at 8pm the surgeon phoned to say op went as planned!!! and my hubby was in intensive care.

To my amazement  tonight he managed to FaceTime my son and myself. He is breathing unaided which I don’t know if that is a big step but I was surprised and he was writing on his whiteboard he wanted a burger and a milkshake. Off to see him tomorrow night, can’t wait to see him but slightly nervous

  • Hi Linda. Great news yes unfortunately we all wanted to run before we can walk after treatment. He will get there slowly slowly. As for other people don’t worry about them people are  generally bored in hospitals as Linda says they are nosey.Hazel x

  • told me he felt very self conscious and that people were staring at him.

When I first left hospital I didn't go anywhere without a scarf on because I felt uncomfortable with people looking at me, however surreptitiously.

Now, no scarves, and I use the most noticable HME possible most of the time when out (I even tried to use Sharpies to draw a Ukranian flag on white ones, but failed). People still look, mostly kids, I just smile at them; if I could talk I'd explain what it's for. It's just curiosity because not something you see very often, I can't recall ever seeing a neck breather outside of the hospital in my life.

Acceptance and adjustment does take a while, but he'll get there.

Brilliant news on the swallow test, he's smashing this out of the park!!

    Well what few days!

I was in work on Thursday and my mobile goes off saying hubby calling, nearly didn’t answer as thought he called by mistake. I answered anyway and the response I got back was “morning Lynda” well the tears started rolling down my face then he said “why are you crying?” And I replied happy tears. I can’t believe after such a short time he is able to talk.
so that was Thursday, all stitches out now and looking amazing. Our son and I went yesterday for our “lessons” with the team, what to do and look out. I concentrated so much by the time I got home I can’t remember any of it!! I don’t feel as concerned now for when he returns home, I think hubby is really looking forward to coming home but nervous as he feels safe in the hospital, which I get.  I forgot to say he is coming home on Monday!!
As always thank you for all your kind words and support.

Got to go now and start the housework as hasn’t been a priority the last month!!Grinning

  • Brilliant Lynda. I knew he’d be fine. He has the same attitude as my first husband. “Sod it! Let’s just get cracking.” Well done. Hugs

  • Hi Lunda,

Not messaged you previously, but just seen your post and so very happy for you all! Hope all goes well Monday.

    Hugs, Gill xx

  • Hi

just been reading your post. Your hubby has done brilliantly and fantastic news he can cone home monday xx

  • Oh Lynda, your post has really made my day!  Thankyou so much for posting - I'm delighted for you all.

Your husband's apprehension about leaving hospital is completely understandable.  I'm sure he'll feel very relaxed and well looked after when he gets home, and his CNS is only a phone call away.

I know you feel you can't remember anything from your lessons but know doubt between you, your hubby and your son you'll have enough information and again, the CNS will be available for queries.

Have a great weekend and I'll be thinking of you Monday.

    Linda x

  • Got me in tears just reading that Lynda, so pleased for you all!!

  • The  "housework" comment? While I was in hospital one of my daughters did a complete "changing rooms" makeover of my whole house; she was in charge and her partner, another daughter, my son, my brother and a brother-in-law were the work force. They completely redecorated every room, put down new flooring and tiles in the kitchen and the bathroom, took delivery of the sofa my wife had ordered, but never saw, and completely revamped the layout in my front room and bedroom....oh, and bought me a new bed.

I knew Jess planned to go in and do something but I was thinking it'd be just a tidy up. My son had to film the "reveal" when I got home, was quite a shockJoyThumbsup
