After 15 sessions of radiotherapy for cancer of the vocal cord around Christmas time. I am still waiting for the result! I had an appointment to see the consultant in April which was then cancelled, and another appointment was made for the 6th of May, I had a letter on Friday once again cancelling that appointment and saying they would send me another appointment I realize there is a backlog because of covid but it is leaving me with anxiety.   Thank you all for your replies

  • Hello again Viv. That really does sound unacceptable

Do you mean an examination by scope or a scan?

I think it's time to put in a formal complaint through PALS as it seems you have slipped through the system. You won't compromise your care at all and it will get things moving.

  • Hi Viv They are suppose to give you your results within a certain time and that hasn't happened . Time to put the foot down . All The Best Regards Min

  • Hi Viv

I totally agree with Dani and Min - that's totally unacceptable.

As Dani suggests I would contact PALS.  My stepdad had to do so recently after having major brain surgery and his care since his complaint has been exemplary.

  • That is totally unacceptable. I would definitely contact pals and try and get hold from someone from your medical team.

I have had my fair share of problems and find myself constantly chasing for appointments. I hope you get this sorted.

  • Hi Viv I had similar problems with getting my results and eventually got my results over the phone. There is a set amount of time that you are suppose to get results and its actually printed and on the wall in the waiting areas for some scans etc All the Best Regards Min

They have to put the camera via the nose to check if it has gone as they did to find cancer originally so I think that may be scope. PS what is Pals

  • PALS is where you can lodge a complaint about the care you have received/receiving. I definitely would not be happy with them cancelling appointments as follow ups are just as important as getting a diagnosis.

Due to my experiences I find I have to be a bit more forward and make sure my worries and concerns are heard. Due to what has happened recently I am actually going to have a conversation with my consultant on the way I am feeling.

Thank you I have just sent my concerns to PALS via email/

  • Well done Viv.  no one should be waiting for appointments after treatment. I had to get pals involved with a different thing they responded quickly you should hear something in next few days.
