So, last radiotherapy was on Friday. It was a bit strange being a bank holiday as there was barely anyone in. I think that made the emotional toll easier.
I have managed to get through the 6 weeks (6 chemo & 30 radiotherapy) still eating, until yesterday.
I'm now even struggling to drink Ensure and sip water, finally made friends with my PEG!! I've been warned these next 2 weeks will be the hardest with day 10 due to be 'peak pain'.How did anyone else get on?
I have a CNS phone appointment Tuesdsy morning, which hubbie is kindly joining me for as speaking tricky with my mouth ulcers- we're getting used to a white board!! But just wondered if anyone else dropped off so suddenly like this?
Cheers, Ronnie
Hi Ronnie well done on completing treatment.
yes the first 2- 6 week of recovery can be pretty bad. I was fine until week 4 of treatment then hit the brick wall. Hunkercdown listen to your body put all your medication through your peg make sure you are getting enough calories snd hydration. Try to sip water if you can if you can’t don’t stress about it I was 4 weeks at least without swallowing I didn’t loose my ability to swallow either . Find some box sets ti watch don’t do anything strenuous and sleep when you need to.
love the white board we used post it notes !
Hazel x just remember by next Easter you’ll look back at it all as a blip and hopefully get double Easter eggs.

Well done Ronnie. For me the worst time was two to four weeks after I’d finished but even then it was bearable. Just remember to keep taking the meds to stay ahead of the pain, keep your neck moisturised and keep on the laxatives! I’m 3 months finished now and can verify that it really does get better. Forwards and backwards at times, but in a few weeks you’ll be surprised how much better you’re feeling.
Eating is not too bad how thanks Min. It takes me a long while to eat due to the lack of saliva and my throat still feels a little restricted, so I have to double swallow sometimes, but I’m assuming this is my new normal. You’re a way behind me so don’t worry if it’s still hard. I finished my last Fortisip a couple of weeks ago so that was something of a Red Letter Day! Keep at it mate. It does get better. Slowly!
Hi MarkEL How are the taste buds going ?. I took my nose tube out nearly 2 weeks ago so has been a bit of a struggle eating enough not to feel ill and drinking enough water. Havnt starting walking yet as feel like fainting sometimes when I stand up . Will have a word next week and hopefully get sorted . All the Best Regards Min
Hi Dani I have really been struggling with feeling physically sick in the morning which really puts me off eating and drinking which is not good. I spoke to the nurse last week and she mentioned it could be my blood pressure and to get the GP or whoever to look at that so hopefully will get sorted next week. All the Best Regards Min
