Hi all went to get my 1st scan results after my last radiotherapy on 16th January for treatment on my base of tongue cancer and was so nervous as really didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t want to get my hopes up just in case ..as I had
a bad cold last week when the scans were done so I wasn’t sure if the results would be inconclusive ….

However I’m really pleased to say that the results were good no cancer seen on the scan and everything was clear!

Hooray , I know it’s early days and I have another scan in 3 months time but it’s the 1st bit of good news in ages . All the treatments and side effects have been worth it to get that resultThumbsup

So for anyone going through treatment or just having being diagnosed with a base of tongue cancer please be strong and know that the results are good and the black dark days can be lifted again!

Helen xx

  • Thanks Dani and Hazel I’m still a bit in shock actually it’s a lot to take in as I didnt know what to expect , feeling oddly flat today but I suppose because I still have such a bad taste in my very dry mouth and eating is still not what it was it’s a constant reminder of what my body has been through.
You guys are great though helps me to read your storyBlush and see light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Cat you’ll get there. Your body has taken a huge battering. It takes time.
My PET threw up a hotspot which propelled me back into the swamp. I had to wait another two weeks for biopsy and results to get the all clear. I was speechless in the car all the way home. Numb. Heaven knows why so many of us react that way but we do. I have a theory that the time of diagnosis and treatment  before has been such a roller coaster our brains can’t cope with some sort of finality.

  • That must of been awful for you and I’m sure I would have been exactly the same  straight back in the swamp .. my head can’t quite accept my positive result yet as it’s been such a daily focus for months now , as it’s in your mouth you can’t quite help but feel everything and my mind even now is worrying that it’s not gone as my left hand side of tongue is so sore and feels like I have a small pimple like ulcer there .. but as I have just had my scans i know I am just overreacting and worrying un necessarily .. ahhh

  • Hi I remember coming home in car after my results and we both felt deflated. Elated all was clear but it was a case if what happens next. That lasted a day or so then I was out in garden plotting  and planning the next trip away.
My thoughts are I don’t worry about anything that’s out of my control now. We’ve one life just live it.
A good rule of thumb if if somethings not feeling right eg an over the 3 week rule worked for me. If anything lasted 3 weeks it was time to contact my cns. In last 7 years init had one trip back in between appointments and that was nothing in the end. My dentist saw something near back of gin she didn’t like I was seen within a few days it had gone but I still went. Ulcers can still plague me even now if  I eat something too acidic.
    Glad we helped xx
