Hi All, Just thought I’d give all update a week on( 28 days post radio). I’ve had initial taste return albeit small. I Can taste the first mouthful for about a second and then it disappears for the rest of what you’re eating at the time. If you move on to another food, again the initial bite only before it dissipates. This is both frustrating but encouraging at the same time. Anyone else experienced this?
Also, the dreaded fatigue! Twice this week it’s stopped me in my tracks and you cannot do nothing about it but go to bed and sleep. I got up late this morning for my breakfast and as soon as I’d finished it was like hitting a brick wall and I’ve not managed to surface apart from having a light tea at 6 o’clock. Hope I’ll be better in the morning.
Anyway, any comments, replies are most welcome. Will update again soon
Tim.
Hi Tim. Glad you are through the worst. Yes this taste anomaly is about right. You get all excited about that first taste then it disappears. Very frustrating.
The fatigue you get from RT can be overwhelming and can sometimes just poleaxe you coming from nowhere, body and head wallowing through treacle. It does get better and gentle exercise helps. It can hang around for months I’m afraid. I think I was a year in befire it disappeared completely.
You’re doing really well

Hi Tim well done on 4 weeks post treatment. Yes it’s baby steps some days 2 forwards and 1 back. I was lucky I never lost taste I went the other way exaggerated taste. But it levels off we are all different at different paces. The radiation fatigue is a double whammy again it’s early days for you. As Dani says it’s like wading through treacle I too was around a year. Gentle exercises improved it but again you can’t rush it just go with your body. Even now most days I have a 20 mjn power nap sets me up for rest of the day. The more you fight the fatigue the harder it gets so go with what your body’s telling you. I am now living my life as I was previously apart from my nap which is never more than 20 min . I sleep through most nights a solid 8 hours and I am eating most things. Dry mouth is still around but I would say 95 % of my saliva is back. Keep doing what you are doing and any questions just shout.

Hi Tim
I agree with Dani. My taste was definitely as you describe.
I think with the fatigue you should eventually learn to pace yourself as you become more attuned to how much you can do and how much rest you need.
Well done so far. You sound as if you're doing well.

Hi Hazel, many thanks for your reply. As I’ve said to Dani, affirmation of the “journey” is everything to me at the moment. People say I’m doing well but I still feel pretty ill after 4 weeks and hope another 3/4 weeks will put me past the worst. The taste/fatigue issues are hard but the people on here are very friendly and helpful. Thankyou.
will keep you posted Tim xx
Hi Linda , many thanks for reply . I’m learning from the members on here , they’ve been there and done it. This helps me enormously. I know everyone Is different but a common theme is that we all have to go through it unfortunately. As you say, I need to pace myself and accept it’s normal and just sleep!
will keep you posted Tim xx

But it sure helps to come on here and have a really good moan.....
