Hi all,
Having an ongoing problem with my PEG, there is no pleasant way to describe it other than 'tummy snot'. Did have antibiotics and a cream, they helped and it isn't anywhere near as bad now. Managed 3 dry days at the start of the week, but the ooze is back. Seems worse when I am more active (managed a pedicure on Tuesdsy and that started it off!). Not sure if my foodie stomach makes it worse, could wear fixing plate closer stood / laid but can be tight when sat up which gets uncomfortable. Had lots of guidance on care, cleaning, rotating, etc. But not so much on actually living with it. Was taping it, but skin got sore. Not taken well to belt and don't see lanyard as an option with neck getting redder. Have taken to living in leggings (not me at all!!), and tucking into waistband, seems most comfort option so far.
Any tips greatly appreciated!!
Thanks, Ronnie
Hi Ronnie. I found the best option was to tuck it into my bra. Of course this may not work if you’re male (but I never make assumptions...)
How long has it been in? I had a few problems with mine at first and the “snot” never went away completely but it was dry and I just wiped it away in the shower or with a baby wipe. I agree you don’t want the fixing plate too tight.
Hope you get it sorted xx
Hi Ronnie, I used to get a little bit of “snot” which washed away when showering or I’d just wipe away with a muslin cloth dampened in warm water, then I’d gently dry the area. It wasn’t a lot but there most days and I had my Peg in for 5 months. I always used two lots of Micropor tape to hold it in place, the first piece on the opposite side to the actual hole but slightly lower down about an inch or so and the other piece held it in place directly under the centre of my boobs just below the bra. I did suffer a little with the areas occasionally getting a little red and patchy so I tended to move the tape slightly either side of the redness every so often, There were times when I would only use one piece of tape to allow my skin to recover if it had become an issue. Other times I would like Knitty tuck iit up through my bra or into the waistband of my leggings, and reiterate what Knitty said, don’t have the fixing plate tight up against your skin /hole. If you are using Micropor tape Ronnie can I suggest you use the narrowest one rather than the inch wide one as that will help. One other thing I always slept with a nice snug ladies vest top on as I felt secure in it and if it’s snug enough you can then leave the tape off overnight. If it’s any comfort I had my PEG out in December and within 3-4 days the hole had completely healed up.
Hope it clears up soon Ronnie
