Hi - 4 months since completing chemotherapy and radiotherapy and have such feelings that things are getting worse , have folk found the same?

it’s an incredibly low feeling that I find so hard to come out of . I’ve had a petct scan and yet to get results and  meeting not till next week.

  • Not uncommon to feel low, most of us have been there, it does get better, ask your GP about counselling?

    Good luck with results.

  • Hi Nige. It is so common to feel low for a while after finishing treatment. I went through a stage of it too. I found that talking about how I was feeling really made a difference. You can access counseling through Macmillan. Ring them and make an enquiry. Things definitely improve but you have to give it time.

  • Hi Nigel it's perfectly normal to have these fears, after what we have been through. I did worry a lot about it at first, however the fear does go with time. Worries do crop up from to time, but I have got to know what the new normal is, I'm sure you will too.

    Ray.

  • As others have said it is not uncommon.  It is probably heightened by being in the period between having the PET and getting the results.  It is a very difficult time and our minds work though all the scenarios almost all of which, aside from a clear PET, are unlikely.

  • It’s a struggle to find any kind of ‘new normal’ with such changes that are in a state of flux - the lumps, bumps, having to retake morphine after the pain levels have started to increase over the last two weeks since having a physical examination.

I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but which bugger turned it off ?! Joy

  • Hi Dani. That is a shame that Macmillan has stopped the counseling service. That leaves rather a hole for people who are needing this service. What are the options now to get counseling that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

  • Hello Lyn - can I ask what hospital you are with ?

I’m at the Brighton hospital and there is a macmillon horizon centre - here there is the availability of counselling.

    others may do the same.
