Finished radiotherapy for base of tongue and right tonsil cancer on 4th April 2026. PET scan showed cancer gone and not spread. Still suffering from lots of mucus coming from nose, which is not very nice.
Worst part now is I am still unable to eat or drink anything. Everything goes in via a peg tube. Beginning to think I will never be able to eat or drink normally again.
Hi Mags. It’s still early at 16/18 weeks. Some of us get better faster others lag behind. We are all different but we all get there. What do you feel is stopping you swallowing?
Are you seeing a speech therapist ? i had one as part of my cancer team they advise on swallowing problems they sent me for an Xray that didnt involve having a camera down .I couldnt swallow at all for nearly 3 months but i persisted with a few sips of water a couple of times a day and it gradually got better .
A swallow test might help but are you doing your exercises three times a day?
Think all going down the wrong way.
It can take a while to get to the stage when eating becomes tolerable... some get there quicker than others...I started with very small portions... minced beef and mash, plenty of gravy...no taste or appetite... just going through the motions... gradually building up to full size meals...I finished CRT in June 2023...took about a year before I was happy with my eating .
Michael
