Throat cyst going for microlaryngoscopy

Hi all, wondering if any one can relate to my story. I have been having a bit of trouble swallowing and a croaky voice for months, I feel very swollen around my upper neck/ u set chin, a sense of fullness with enlarged glands. It can get very painful to talk at times. Seen ENT who had a look and said I had a large cyst near my vocal cords, I went for a CT neck and chest with contrast, and was scheduled for a microlaryngoscopy with biopsy. This has now been changed to include a rigid oesophagoscopy with biopsy and I’ve had no explanation why. I haven’t been able to contact my surgeon and don’t yet know the scan results. Obviously I was overcome with fear we are dealing with a malignancy, I have managed to calm myself a bit but it is all consuming, this limbo land is a living hell. What experiences or thoughts do you have? Thank you

  • Hi

Welcome but sorry to see you here.

I should imagine your ENT wants a good look around surrounding areas not just your larynx. It’s horrid having to wait but it’s all you can do just now.
Biopsies are taken to rule out cancer not just to confirm it.
    Fingers crossed you’re ok.
I expect your scan results will be available to your surgeon only till they have a proper look with a scope. We lay people aren’t trained to interpret these reports and resort to Google and there madness lies.
