Hello peeps,

I have had an ulcer on my tongue since end September. I went to the dentist and they referred me to hospital in December. Got an apt through for 6 January for biopsy. My other symptoms are sore jaw and ear, losing voice and loss of appetite. I am hoping these are just a coincidence.

It hasn't bothered me tooooo much as Christmas and NY are a busy time. But have woken up with the fear and a sore mouth. Does anyone know how long it takes to get results from mouth biopsy? I am so nervous for getting it done, just a local.

Anyone had this, how was it?

Thanks x

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get results from mouth biopsy?

    Usually two weeks

Try not to worry. 90% of head and neck  referrals turn out to not be cancer. Ask the surgeon doing the biopsy straight out if he thinks it is. They can usually tell.

The other symptoms turn out to be coincidental.

    Fingers crossed

  • Hi there

I was in your position this time last year having just had a tongue biopsy on a suspicious ulcer, referred to the hospital by my dentist.

For me, I got the vibes on the day from the consultant even before the biopsy was done (that same day), and when I got called in 3 days later for the results appt I was 99% certain before I walked in the door. And yes, it was cancer and I needed surgery. But caught very early. I also suspect the actual biopsy itself cut out a fair bit of the cancer.

My biopsy was done with a local. It was stitched up. All only took about half an hour. Did hurt once the anesthetic wore off but I only needed painkillers fro a day or so I think. I think I ate liquids/soft food that day as well.

  • Thank you. I am dreading it. But it helps to know what is going to happen. x
