Hi all, just to introduce myself 55 yr old dad who just got the dreaded news my biopsies of my tonsillectomy have shown I have hpv- tonsil cancer right tonsil. So will have laser surgery in 2-3 weeks time and lymph nodes removed. Im being quite positive about this and willing to hit it head on. I will hopefully use your previous experiences as learning points and come through this the nest I can.

  • Hi. Welcome to the group.

  • Hi  and welcome. Good news that surgery can fix it. There are quite a few of us here who avoided further treatment so best foot forward.

  • Hi Civpop, welcome to the group. I was diagnosed with tonsil cancer, about this time 8 years ago, when I was 68. My treatment was bi tonsillectomy, then six weeks of radiotherapy plus one day long session of chemo each week. The treatment is no walk in the park, but doable, with very high cure rates, me and many more are living proof of that, on this site. If you are offered a feeding tube i.e. RIG or Peg, I would advise you to have it, they are a lifesaver if eating becomes a problem, during or after treatment. You will feel a lot better about things once your treatment starts and you are into the routine of it. We are all here to help, so ask any questions you may have, someone will always answer if they can.

  • HPV16+ tonsil cancer, 2+ years out from difficult chemoradiotherapy treatment.

Tough old slog at times but very doable, I was age 68 at the start of treatment so at 55 years old you should be more than up to the challenge.

It will be very hard at times, quite a few nasty side effects but some patients avoid the worst of them.

Ask any question at any time, even if you just want to let off steam, 24/7, always someone around.
