Diagnosed 2 weeks ago. Awaiting mri and ct results Monday. So many questions and fears

  • Most, if not all,  on here have been through the same or similar, ask anything, 24/7 , always someone around to chat with.

  • Thanks. The not knowing the full extent of the staging and treatment is hard to deal with. The thought of radiotherapy is horrendous as read so many horror stories about it.

Hi Nicky. RT is difficult but it’s not a horror story. You won’t read many here. Keep away from Face B groups and Google where you WILL read horror stories. Nobody gets all the side effects and the ones we do get can be mitigated. Nothing happens all at once. It creeps up on you so don’t despair, it’s doable. I was 68 when I finished 6 weeks treatment and I’m now over six years clear.
Stay with us. Listen to us and your team. We will get you through.

  • Thanks for the advice. Yes shouldn’t be reading  about something I might not even need yet

  • Hi Nicky

I'm 70 ish, diagnosed with tonsil and neck cancer over 2 years ago, 30 radiotherapy sessions and 6 chemotherapy, treatment is not easy, anything associated with cancer never is , some do miss the nastiest of the side effects.

HPV 16+ cancer is curable, 90% success rate, recovery from the treatment can be slow but eventually life returns to something like normal.

Keep the forum updated with your progress, the support on this forum is second to none.
