Hi
I'm sorry if I shouldn't be here as I've not been told I have cancer but I'm so worried I might.
I'm 41 healthy non smoker and I've had a large strange shape red lump on my tongue for 3 months. It's not changing but not going becoming very painful also sore throat for about the sam
e time.
Also there is a small white lump under it. Gp tried me with antibiotics and oral thrush medication which didn't work. Bypass couple weeks I had a biopsy which has been extremely painful on day 10 only now managing to eat and talk properly.
I guess I'm here for support or if above symptoms anyone had. I've got yo wait 2 weeks for results which will be Tuesday 26th but no appointment yet. Sure its nothing maybe some type of trauma but why there so long and why the constant sore throat.
Very anxious family are worried and I have 2 very young children.
Thank you Hazel appreciate your response.
We will take notes of what's said in morning. Keep updated x
Good luck for today, Claire. xx

Hi all unfortunately I've had the news I was dreading. It is cancer. SCC. Dr thinks it's contained in my tongue but the mri, ultrasound, ct scan will determine if its spread.
I'm booked in for surgery 22nd removal of lesion on tongue, skin from my arm , stomach. Unknown yet if I'll need chemo or radiotherapy
I'm scared and shocked of what's in front of me. I have a baby & 4 year old that I have to be strong for as they mean everything to me. I'm in a nightmare and future is bleak.
Please could you send me positive news x

Claire - let’s be honest, this situation is s*** and it’s perfectly ok to feel s*** about it. Be angry, upset, cry, scream or shout - I still find myself doing one or all of them even now!
Its gonna be a bit of a rollercoaster but rest assured - the system, the people and networks (like this one) will provide you with a world of help, support and guidance to get you through it.
News like this fills you with a feeling of impending doom which again, is totally normal and equally rational to have such thoughts but read/understand what the others have already said in this thread; treatable, survivable and a proper networks of support are out there to help you.
Easy words to say but keep strong and focus on each hurdle one at a time to avoid getting overwhelmed. Your littles are obviously the focus and your partner will no doubt be the rock to support you through it.
Please look after yourself and feel free to share any anxieties, concerns or questions on here.
Best wishes
Reevesy
Hi Tigerlilly
I am sorry that they have diagnosed cancer and believe me when I say we have all been in the horrible place that I am sure you find yourself in at the moment. The yreatment can be extremely tough but does have some great results with a 90%cure rate!
I had SCC T4 in right tonsil which had spread to base of tongue ,left tonsil and several lymph nodes.
The Radiotherapy and chemos took their toll but I have had two clear scopes( camera up nose looking at throat) and a good MRI result looking like the treatment worked
Stay off google, trust your team and make sure you have friends and family around you to help with the appointments and your lovely young children x
It may seem totally overwhelming at the moment but you will get through this and like many of us come through the other side . For now just enjoy your favourite foods and activities .This group are very supportive and there is always someone here who will read your post and respond you are not alone x
Debbie
Sorry to hear your diagnosis.
I would also recommend the FB Young Tongues group - it is a mix of UK and US based folks, with many people on there who have faced exactly the pathway you are now on. They are an extremely helpful and friendly bunch (as are people on here!!).
The scans will show more as you say - if it is contained within the tongue (as mine was), then it may be that surgery on its own will be sufficient, with no need for radio/chemo. I didn't need the reconstruction involving skin from forearm etc, but it is very common in SCC of the tongue if the area involved is deemed to be too large/awkward to heal by itself.

Thankyou all for your kind positive comments. I will look at that group you advised. Just good yo hear success stories that I will recover and get better as so many of you on here have. You're all an inspiration to me. It is support with family friends networks that will get me through.
I'm just scared of the unknown . I will learn more next week if it's spread and the correct treatment I will need. At a minimum though it will be surgery & reconstruction with lymph node removal.
Will learn here and by medical staff what my recovery will really be like to I can plan for my babies x
