Hello - high dysplasia under tongue

Hello, I'm new to this group. I'm in my early seventies. After my dentist found a white patch under the right side of my tongue in early April, I was referred for and had a biopsy which showed some high dysplasia. I'm now scheduled to have al laser excision in the next few weeks and, depending on the histology, I may need further surgery after that. Apart from the white patch, I have no other. symptoms.  At my pre-op assessment earlier this week, my blood pressure was consodered  to be too high - I'm not on medication. When I spoke to the GP surgery, they did not seem to be too worried about the BP readings. On their advice I'm monitoring my BP and will take them into the surgery next week. I have a follow-up call with the pre-op assessment team in 10 days.

Any words of advice generally or on how best to handle the BP issue as I risk being caught between GP not being concerned and the hospital who say that surgery could have to be postponed if BP does not come down.....

  • HI and welcome.

Your GP is not your surgeon. Ask your hospital team to request your practice to prescribe something to get your BP down.

  • Dani Thank you. Hospital Team were very clear that it was down to me to liaise with GP surgery, that I hsd to take the lead on this. GP reluctant to immediately prescribe medication on the basis of BP readings taken at the hospital on one occasion without seeing and assessing readings taken over several days.

You have a point. I suffer from white coat syndrome …. Badly.
Maybe monitoring at home will give you a better answer. But do take your morning and afternoon readings for a week into hospital.
