Greetings.

I am brand new to this forum.  I have HPV related cancer in two lymph nodes and one tonsil. I am three weeks in on six weeks of radiation and chemo. Food tastes like nothing. My desire to eat and drink is not great. I am genuinely terrified of what the next three weeks will bring. I am here to help commiserate, to encourage and comfort if I can.  To be a sounding board if you just want to let it all out. I am hoping for some encouraging stories that I can get through these next three weeks and beyond, that the fight is worth it.

Looking forward to virtually meeting all of you. Wishing each and every one of us tge very best outcomes possible.

Cheers

BakedBrian

  • HunCaroline Try not to stress  about it lots if us have got through it. Start by laying  on your bed set timer for 12 mins close your  eyes and let your mind wander , sometime a favourite holiday from getting in the plane and mental do  everything . Sometimes boring mundane walk through the supermarket. Whatever works for you. But stressing about it won’t help it won’t be as bad as yiu are thinking.  the radiotherapy teams are excellent at what they do they do it day in day out. Trust yiur team

  • Hi Brian, I had a similar diagnosis/treatment and finished in mid-Oct, had all clear a couple of weeks back along with a mate in the same boat, same cancer. It's a very treatable cancer and the radio works very well on it. The treatment is tough but bearable, the last few weeks weren't as bad as I was expecting. Keep taking the painkillers and eat as much sloppy high calorie food as you can, anything really to get the calories in. You will get there and this will be all over before you know it - I looked at 6 weeks radiotherapy on day 1 as a mountain to climb and it wasn't, it was over in a flash and the recovery has been really quick too. All the best, Si

  • Best of luck to you! We are here for you every step of the way!

  • Si, thanks for the encouraging words!  Tomorrow I will four weeks done, two to go.

  • You’re not pathetic. Don’t be silly. Make yourself a playlist and give it to the radiographers. Practice lying still on your bed without a pillow listening to it. It’s only a few minutes.
And be aware. They are watching you and if you’re unhappy the machine will switch off and they will be in there quick as a flash

I was always clipped down and out in ten minutes.

  • Use your playlist to track the time. Four songs and you are out. Songs that make you feel happy, that remind you of wonderful moments in your life.

  • Hi Baked Brian I'm about 4 months further down the line than you - radiation and chemo ended just before Christmas.

I only joined this site today but reading the stories and posts of those who have taken this unwanted journey has given me a lot more strength and the light at the end of the tunnel has become a lot brighter. (bloody long tunnel though !!)

I wish you nothing but the best.

  • Hi Remember there is light at the end if it though albeit a few twists and turns along the way.

  • Thanks Steve!  I just found this group last week. Seems to be a pretty great bunch of people. Lots of help and advice and encouragement.
