Hi, Just been diagnosed with mouth cancer after months of seeing dentists and doctors. I suffered from Lichen Planus for 25 years (just a bit of soreness and ulceration) it has now turned erosive and caused squamous cell carcinoma. I have now had 3 biopsies MRI and CT scans. Told I need an urgent op to remove half my teeth and some of my jaw. I was a fit and very healthy 62 year old woman and I am now constantly stressed and can think of nothing else. Friends and family and Macmillan have all been very supportive but I just cannot work out how to accept and believe this news ( I don't really feel ill) and move on. I was told I would need an op before Christmas but now with holidays and strikes it looks likely to be New Year. I am also very scared about my future quality of life. I am trying to enjoy the here and now but very busy trying to sort out practicalities, finances etc. I am also trying to keep up my level of health but finding this very difficult in my current mental state. Any advice particularly from those who have been through it would help.
It’s a case if needs must you’ll find an inner strength. During the waiting phase we watched mind blowing tv box sets anything ti distract. We watched 8 series if game of thrones had ti re watch later as nothing sunk in

Hi Anna Mary
I have had the works with scans, CT, PET, needle biopsies, Xrays and never had them under anaesthetic. They are completely painless. With both the CT and PET they inject you with a dye to show up various parts of your body.
Sounds like they are doing a very thorough job. It all helps them formulate the treatment you need.
Sending hugs. I do hope you can have a Good Christmas tomorrow and put it out of your mind for the day.

Thank you. I hope your Christmas is everything you want it to be. Tomorrow we are all going to my sister's house for the afternoon. Her husband isn't well, she has only just had a hip replacement last Saturday and my husband is awaiting an operation on his foot. Lord knows what we'll all be like shuffling around. The only healthy ones will be my daughter and her boyfriend. Oh, and four dogs. I've asked my husband to wear his silliest Christmas outfit and there are many to choose from. I'm trying hard to stay positive but as I'm sure you know, sometimes that's easier than others. My last appointment with the consultant was awful. I dread going back. Still, "Sufficient to the day is the evil thereof". Have a wonderful day tomorrow. xx
Here's hoping that you have a wonderful Christmas. Your description of what your family day may be like made me smile . That humour will help you through this.
I am sure that once the holidays are out the way and you are on your treatment path then all will be much clearer and you will find it easier to cope with the emotional aspects.
Merry Christmas
Hi Anna don’t stress about the pet xf scan it’s as much about getting images for the planning as well as checking lymph nodes. Remember head and neck cancers have an excellent response to treatment.
