Just been for mask fitting and I found it so claustrophobic. I got through fitting, just, but couldn't manage scan. Massive adrenaline rush, and had to stop. How the hell can I manage my panic/claustrophobia? I have to go back tomorrow for scan and I'm panicking just thinking about it.
Hi kaye
Yes, the preparation time after they'd made my mask and clipping it on for the scan took an absolute age as they had to put it on 15 times, making adjustments as they went, as I couldn't breathe either. They were brilliantly patient and understanding though and of course it was worth it in the end!
So pleased to hear you got through it too.

I have to have a fitting. I only just survived the MRI!!! I'm dreading it. I'll keep my eyes closed and just keep thinking I have to have this and hopefully I won't have a fit!!
Hi I’ve been on here over 4 years Diagnosis and to be honest with you no one has as a fit yet the staff know what they’re doing and they will do all they can ti reassure and calm you. this is fitting will be the longest one that you have in the scanner because it some hospital do the mask fitted and a CT scan and plan at the same time. The CT scan is nothing like the MRI scan you don’t have the same clanging and banging and now he says below is a link to Leeds Cancer Centre where they have a video of how they make the mask you might find it usefulRemember to ask for eyeholes cutting
out it does make a difference
Really hope this helps you just have to remember the mask is going to save your life.

If you think you are going to be in trouble with this ask for some sedatives before hand? The techies are really patient and will be very gentle and helpful all the way. Mine didn’t take forever, maybe 15 minutes. You can breathe easily through it as it’s not solid. Ask them to cut eyeholes in it after it’s finished. You’ll do it. Xx
