Hi
I am about 6 weeks from finishing my radiotherapy for laryngeal cancer.
I have been recovering fairly well but recently have spit out a little blood and my voice has started to go a little hoarser than it was.
Is this normal ?
Thanks
I can't help with personal experience because my cancer was elsewhere but MikeO and chris2012 should pop on soon with theirs.
My first husband had a laryngectomy many years ago and didn't have symptoms like this. My advice would be to contact your team who hopefully will be able to put your mind at rest
fingers crossed it's nothing

I would most certainly get in contact with my team if it were me. As to the hoarse voice, my RT finished seven and a half years ago so can't be sure, though I don't recall it happening and I made no mention of it in my blog.
Spitting blood though, happened to me a couple of months post-op last year and a couple of days later it turned out to be indication of an infection, which caused an arterial bleed that needed emergency surgery and another week in hospital. Not saying that's what's happening in your case, very unlikely, but I'd get yourself checked to be on the safe side.
Metastatic SCC diagnosed 8th October 2013. Modified radical neck dissection November, thirty-five radiotherapy fractions with 2xCisplatin chemo Jan/Feb 2014. Recurrence on larynx diagnosed July 2020 so salvage laryngectomy in September 2020.
My apologies for worrying you. You must have thought I was exaggerating. You’ve just had radiotherapy so listen to Mike.
sorry again.

Good evening Serious, as MikeO said if in doubt get it checked out, i like many other people have had false alarms especially where blood is involved and any noticeable changes. Most of the time its nothing to worry about as it can be part of the recovery where coughing too much can cause these issues, but i would always contact my head and neck nurse straight away to get an appointment or advice all the best.
