I am waiting to see the max-fac doctor and am beside myself with anxiety.
I see my dentist regularly and at the end of last year he treated ongoing sore gum (for about 6 months at that point) round one tooth (no other gums sore and my dental hygiene good) by cleaning and filling tooth, but instead of getting better soreness remains with lump and signs of ulceration developing since treatment.
I should have gone back or seen a doctor sooner, but the Covid situation made me delay a few months after the treatment, which was silly. So the problem has existed for about a year and has deteriorated.
I have now been back to the dentist and he x-rayed tooth and says tooth is fine and he doesn’t know what problem is, hence referral to hospital.
He says it isn’t typical of cancer, which isn’t the same as ruling it out, and he also could not find another explanation. Inevitably I fear the worst.
I find coping with the uncertainty and anxiety very hard, especially as access to doctors and medical treatment seems so much more difficult at the moment, and I live alone and have obviously not been able to see friends and family for a while.
Thanks for your patience and any responses
Hi Cathy
So sorry that you are in your current situation. It is very worrying waiting for results so I hope they come back soon. It is the not knowing that is so hard. When things become clearer you will then know what you are dealing with. I do hope that your results come back cancer free.
In the meantime distraction is the best thing to try and take your mind off things. Keep as busy as you can doing the things you love to do, distract yourself with silly TV shows, anything to try and stop you from dwelling too much.
Best wishes

Hi Cathy.
welcome to our community.
First thing try not to panic. Try not to dwell on stuff out of your control. You are in the system now what’s done is done and there’s no point in what’s if?
Now that you are being seen you will get looked after.
All of us here know the waiting game and the best way round us to keep busy.
Second please stay off Google. Anything you want to know ask here and your doctors.
See your GP fir something to help you sleep if you are finding it hard.
Keep us in the loop and good luck.

Hi Cathy
Welcome to the forum and Dr Google is not a good place to be. It will show you the worst outcomes and often from many years ago. Treatments are so much better today than even a few years ago.
Feel free to ask anything or just have a rant on here. Nobody will diagnose anything for you, but everyone has personal experiences that may help you cope with what you are experiencing right now.
I've found that hospitals are a very safe environment now we have learned how to manage Covid and access to the medical teams, for me, has been excellent over the past year or so. I hope the hospital where you are referred to is the same.
Remember that for the vast majority of us this cancer is eminently treatable and we have a good quality of life after recovering from what is a tough period of treatment.
Hi Cathy
it’s already been said please keep off google you will scare yourself there’s so much misinformation on there it’s not regulated. As my g p said 99% of ent referral s aren’t cancer so try not to stress.
min the meantime keep busy watch box sets read anything to distract yourself.
please update when you’ve seen e n t.
