I am waiting to see the max-fac doctor and am beside myself with anxiety.
I see my dentist regularly and at the end of last year he treated ongoing sore gum (for about 6 months at that point) round one tooth (no other gums sore and my dental hygiene good) by cleaning and filling tooth, but instead of getting better soreness remains with lump and signs of ulceration developing since treatment.
I should have gone back or seen a doctor sooner, but the Covid situation made me delay a few months after the treatment, which was silly. So the problem has existed for about a year and has deteriorated.
I have now been back to the dentist and he x-rayed tooth and says tooth is fine and he doesn’t know what problem is, hence referral to hospital.
He says it isn’t typical of cancer, which isn’t the same as ruling it out, and he also could not find another explanation. Inevitably I fear the worst.
I find coping with the uncertainty and anxiety very hard, especially as access to doctors and medical treatment seems so much more difficult at the moment, and I live alone and have obviously not been able to see friends and family for a while.
Thanks for your patience and any responses
Good luck for that. Both my biopsy results were back a week after the event so fingers crossed you don't have to wait too long.

Hi Cathy. I think now that Covid rules are being relaxed a little in that direction so that suggestion is pretty routine. It helps to have somebody with you because it's easy to miss things or simply not hear them. I hope the news is good, but if it isn't then you will have lots of questions. Don't be hurried and make sure they explain what is happening. Good luck again. xx

I’m awful, I analyse everything said and done for clues, when I really need to just wait for the biopsy result and facts. The trouble is when you know nothing for sure you worry about a dozen or more possibilities. I’ll report back as soon as I have the result.
Fingers crossed that the biopsy results are negative, but if not we're all here for you. Easy to say not to worry, hard to do as this is probably the most stressful part of the pathway. Once you know what you are dealing with and have a treatment plan it will all move on quickly.
Hi Cathy it’s good that you can take someone my cancer hospital Leeds has allowed people to take someone for results all the way through. Don’t google you will scare yourself. We’re here if you need us.
good luck
